One of Poynton Commodores finest hours, starting 'A' class with a last place finish in the first competition, going on to finals later that year as second favourites only to beat the favourites 6th Hove by 'it's in the bag' 1/10th of a point to take the championship.

The reward didn't stop there, that same evening, for the first time since 1991, the corps once again got to play under the floodlights as a part of Open Class compeition.
