In 1991 with a much stronger Corps and Staff the Commodores achieved their first D.C.U.K. win at Leicester playing the popular music of Lennon and McCartney. Their progress was reflected in a highly creditable fourth place at that years Championships. ENSEMBLES and INDIVIDUALS In 1991 the Commodores Ensemble groups stormed through and won great acclaim in the Individuals and Ensembles competition. Playing variations on numbers recorded at the Concorde Pavillion in California by the Blue Devils, the numbers rearranged by Chris Billington set the building on fire. The Brass Ensemble amazed the crowd with a rendition called ‘ Four Brothers’ although there were actually 5 people in the group - Chris Billington, Matt Williams, Dave Ainsworth, Adam Doherty and Jason Bentley. The Mixed Ensemble piece was the Harry Connick Jr number ‘It’s Alright with me’ from a Blue Devils arrangement with the Chris Billington touch. Members in the Ensemble are thought to include any or all of the following: Dave Ainsworth, Paul McCorriston, Clive Smith, Danny Williams, Neil Cronshaw, Steve Cronshaw, Matt Williams, Adam Doherty, Michelle Merriman, Guy Henry, Emma Collantine, Allison Johnson, Ian Downes, Dave Bradley. They entered the arena to a cry of ‘Keep it Tight’ from arranger Chris Billington and then played probably the finest mixed Ensemble piece ever performed. In both sections, the title of Winners was a forgone conclusion. Commodores are proud to be associated with the
